Throughout the history of God’s people, amazing spiritual revivals have come from small groups of people who radically return to God’s message in ways that run counter to the culture of the time. Josiah rediscovered God’s word in 2Kings 22-23 and began a revival that awakened Israel. Nehemiah had God’s word read to the people rebuilding Jerusalem after captivity and it encouraged them to rebuild the city and the temple. The first church in Acts 2:42-47 was so radical in their love that even the Romans took notice. Martin Luther brought reformation to the church in the 1500s by returning to the basics of scripture; this launched the Protestant church. The early 20th Century was marked by a return to the radical love of the needy and destitute started by Charles Sheldon and his book, In His Steps which focused on following Jesus. These are just a few examples of revolutions that have come from faithful believers returning to God’s love in their own time. REVO is short for Revolutionary. It is a call to our people at Mountain View to return to God and change their lives and the lives of others by doing so. This revolution must take place in the heart of each individual as they turn to God and away from the rampant materialism and syncretistic post-modernism of our society. Each person who calls MVCC their home will be encouraged to take personal responsibility for their own growth and the REVO group will take responsibility for supporting each other and spurring one another on to good works. A REVO Group will be one of several small groups that begin at MVCC with the challenge of returning to a scriptural form of Christianity that is marked the characteristics of a saving faith in Christ: practical action, works of service, and generous deeds. |
