Humble LivingWe are too busy as a people. Parents are teaching this unhealthy lifestyle to their children. Group members will be encouraged to take control of their schedule, focusing on God first, family second, and then prudently and carefully adding other activities while maintaining necessary balance. Sacrificial GivingNo one can deny that we live in a materialistic world, saturated with stuff. Group members will be encouraged to begin working towards a debt-free life and living well within their means. This includes the ideas of tithing to their church, additional gifting to charities, and providing for those in need in their own family and church. Each REVO Group will adopt its own method of additional sacrificial giving (over and above tithes)*. *Possible Examples: Grocery gift cards for the needy, sacrificial giving to MVCC benevolence, supporting a missionary financially and with letters, secret gifts to needy within our congregation, adopting a single mom or elderly person and providing for them, meeting medical costs for group members or for others, etc.Consistent ServingOnly by serving others, do we get our eyes off our own selves and begin to put life in its right order. The ultimate apologetic is love. When you demonstrate love in a radical way by serving someone else, then they and others will find it easier to believe in a God that can change the world through His people. Each REVO Group will regularly schedule their own service events that serve the community and the church. Possible Examples of Community Service Projects: Outreach events, evangelism, serving with our ministry partners, fundraising for charity, canned food drives, etc. Possible Examples of Serving the Church: Sunday communion servers, Hospital visits, outreach to newcomers, service/blessing preschool parents, workdays, etc. Active Worship ParticipationThe church has gotten away from the idea that common people can participate in worship. We pay preachers to preach, teachers to teach, and musicians to do worship. We’ve forgotten that God wants each of us to worship him as a central part of our lives. During the monthly meeting, REVO members will be encouraged to take turns reading scripture, leading prayer, and singing together in worship. Members will also be encouraged to actively participate on Sundays. Each REVO Group member will be asked to purchase a book called “Common Prayer, A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals.” This book is a daily devotional and prayer book that encourages daily scripture reading and a lifestyle of action. It celebrates historic Christians who have put God’s word in action and it remembers days in history of great events and terrible tragedies. This book can be used for individual prayer devotions and for group worship. Consider how amazing it will be if everyone at MVCC is reading the same daily scriptures together. Group ReproductionSharing your faith is scary if no one has shown you how. This is another task that has fallen by the wayside in the church. Each member should be sharing their faith with others in their lives. REVO Groups will pray for friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors at each meeting and will practice ways to share their faith with their lifestyle, with acts of service, and with non-confrontational discussions. Each group will have the goal of spinning off a new group within two years by growing through invitations. |
